New York, May 20th 1927, 07:43 a.m. – The “Spirit of St. Louis” finally took off from Roosevelt Airport. Destination: Le Bourget airport near Paris. In the cockpit was a 25-year old American called Charles A. Lindbergh. Thirty-three hours and thirty-nine minutes later he landed in Paris, making aviation history with the first non-stop transatlantic flight. As the official timekeeper of the International Aviation Association, Longines duly entered his flight in the record books.
